I have a confession to make and I hope I would not get in jail for this. I just finished watching the award-winning
Slumdog Millionaire in an illegal website. It's just that I was so curious about this film, not only because of the Best Picture awards under its belt (
Satellite award, Golden Globe award, Critics Choice award), but also because of its premise:
Slumdog Millionaire is about Jamal, a boy from the slums of Mumbai who immediately rose to fame after reaching the second-to-the-last question of India's version of
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? The media, the police, and even the show's host doubted his accomplishment and suspected that he was cheating. Jamal, however, has the story of his life to tell, and with it, he could not only prove to everyone how he knew the answers to the questions, but also continue with the million-rupee question and become a millionaire from the slums.
So far, I know I had just seen one of the best films this year, yet I still do not have the right to predict whether or not this will win the Oscar for Best Picture (I've got to watch the other movies first), but here's hoping it would.
I'll write a review once the movie comes to our malls.
